Introduction

Before I go out to explore some of the varied cultures of the world, I want to present a list of things about me, my cultural prescription. I will basically say where life has taken me and where I plan to go with it later on.
My Name: Simmons, Daniel
Sex: Male
Age: 19
Race: White/Not Hispanic
Ethnicity: English (likely some Scottish too) on my father's side/Italian and German from my mother's side
Religion: Protestant/I do not claim to be part of a specific denomination, but I currently attend Assembly of God churches
Family: Mother, Father, 2 younger brothers, a mini dachshund, and a parakeet
My parents are still married. They met in college. Both are Pennsylvania natives. Being in a military family lends to a lot of moving around.
Social Class: middle
My father works a fairly casual job and is also a Major in the Army Reserves. My mother works as a teacher at an elementary school. We have moved around from Pennsylvania to Oklahoma. I've never been further west than that.

I took Spanish in high school and Arabic in college, but I did not follow up with them to speak them fluently.
Upbringing: raised in Christian family
Aside from that kind of moral upbringing, my parents did not allow have cable until I was maybe seven. I lived off VHS tapes and my toys.
Future Plans: to receive commission in the US Army upon graduation and to create several graphic novel series's
Current Placement: I am at UAB as an English major in Creative Writing and I am in the Army ROTC
Objective of my blog: to observe aspects of foreign cultures to enhance personal understanding through participation
Handicap: none
Skillset: knowledge of Medieval Japanese history and customs, minor martial arts training, particularly aikido and karate
Samurai have a huge influence on me in how I want to act as an Army officer and how I want to behave in everyday situations.
